Pediatric Spine and Spinal Cord Injuries

Due to the nature of the pediatric spine, there is a much higher incidence of ligamentous injury rather than bony injury, often making the diagnosis of a spinal cord injury more difficult.  At Neurosurgeons for kids, we bring decades of experience to the forefront, with a special interest in congenital spine anomalies.  As neurosurgeons, our primary concentration is in intradural pathology(changes within the spinal cord itself), with a secondary emphasis on the cervical spine.  We work closely with our orthopedic colleagues for complex scoliosis cases in order to minimize the risk of spinal cord injury intra-operatively.

Pediatric patients have a much better long term prognosis that adults in terms of recovery from spinal cord injury and it is important to have a pediatric neurosurgeon involved in the care of every child with a spinal cord injury.  During your office visit, images will be reviewed and any new images needed will be ordered.  We will personally review the images with you, describe the findings, and discuss the next treatment step.
