Patient Policies
Welcome to Neurosurgeons for Kids and thank you for choosing us to serve your health care needs. This website is designed to answer many of the questions that you may have. The more you know about our policies and methods of practice, the better we may be of service to you. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. It is our goal to provide you and your family the best medical care possible and to maintain a pleasant and long-lasting relationship with each of you.

Our office staff consists of carefully selected and trained office and nursing personnel. We take great pride in our staff's training, knowledge, and competence. We would like you to have the confidence in them that we do.

Every effort will be made to assist every patient possible.  However, guidelines must be created for patients to have proper expectations and for the practice to achieve those expectations.

Patient Forms and Information

As a patient of Neurosurgeons for Kids, it will be your responsibility to keep scheduled appointments; a missed appointment leaves an empty slot that could have been used by another patient in need of medical care.

Our office will require notification of cancellation of appointments at least 24 hours prior to the appointment or earlier if possible. This can be done by calling our office at 407-236-0006. Failure to do so will result in a $50 no-show charge added to your account.  Any outstanding balance must be paid prior to rescheduling.

You should call the office at least three (3) days before the appointment to give us the information needed to complete the referral. That information includes: your name, the physician you are being referred to, his phone and fax numbers, the date of the appointment, the diagnosis for the referral, your insurance, whether it is for a visit or a specific procedure (such as surgery), and where it is going to be performed (office or hospital). We do not mail referrals to specialists. You should familiarize yourself with your insurance plan, and determine if it requires you to take a referral with you; if you are not certain of how your referral is handled, please contact the referral coordinator, and they will help you to determine what to do.

Lab and X-Ray Results

Please refer to our Lab Results Policy in this packet. When lab or radiology work is ordered by another physician, please give us two (2) days to complete this request. You can call or drop off the order.

Calls for prescriptions received in this office after 12:30 PM will addressed the following day after 2:00 PM. Please try to call the office at least 48 hours in advance for all medications. Calls received after 12:30 PM on Friday will be returned after 2:00 PM on the following Monday if we do not have Saturday hours that weekend. When you call, you may be asked to leave a message in the Prescription Voice Mailbox. Always leave your full name, date of birth, name of the medicine(s), spelling it out if necessary, the prescription number on the bottle, if the prescription is for one month, three months, or other time period, your phone number and the name of the Pharmacy (include the address if a chain store like Walgreens or CVS). Please see the enclosed policy statements on prescriptions, sample medications, and narcotic prescribing.

Emergencies and On Call

If your child has an emergency, such as chest pain, severe shortness of breath, severe headache, or bleeding, call 911 or proceed directly to the nearest hospital emergency room. You can always call the office with any questions about acute medical problems after hours. If the physician is not in the office, the machine will direct you to leave a message for the physician on call and our answering system will page him. If the doctor on call does not answer your call within 30 minutes, please recall the office.

Records Releases

Please complete the enclosed records releases to obtain your medical records from your previous family physician and any specialists you may be consulting. Our Practice Privacy Policy is available at the office for your review.

Drug Samples

Neurosurgeons for Kids has decided not to keep any drug company sample medications. This decision was based on several concerns about how the presence of samples could affect our medical decision-making. In particular, we could be influenced to use new expensive medications that many of our patients could not afford after the samples ran out, even though older generic medicines worked just as well. To avoid conflicts, we have chosen to refuse samples of most medicines.

We understand that many patients have received samples from doctors in the past, and that some of you will have difficulty paying for prescriptions. We are also aware that sometimes only certain medications will do the job. If you feel that you cannot afford your medications, please inform your nurse or physician, and we will connect you with the local, state, or pharmaceutical company programs for financial assistance with medications. We will make every effort to help you to obtain the proper treatment. If you have any questions, please speak with one of our nurses or medical assistants.
