Neurosurgeons for Kids - Newsletters
Semi-annual Newsletter - January 1, 2005

HAPPY NEW YEAR! It’s time again for our semi-annual newsletter. Thanks to all of you who have been so supportive of this practice. I have become the busiest private practice pediatric neurosurgeon in the US. We offer 24-hour availability of double board-certified neurosurgery and PICU/NICU nursing. The morbidity and mortality rates in the practice are the lowest in the US. We continue to strive for excellence and appreciate your support.

I would like to take this opportunity to review benign positional molding and the current treatment paradigm. There has been a general trend away from imaging studies and to clinical diagnosis of benign positional molding. The differences in appearance are seen in the diagrams to the left. Essentially, lambdoid synostosis is a trapezoid whereas benign positional molding is a parallelogram. Band treatment continues to be the mainstay for benign positional molding, ideally beginning before 9 months of age. The velocity of head growth slows and the sutures begin to close after 12 months of age. It typically takes 3 months of band treatment for a good outcome.

We appreciate the opportunity to care for your children. In order to better coordinate referrals, 2 of my business cards are enclosed. I have many patients now taking advantage of our e-mail response time(<6 hours) and have begun e-mailing clinic notes to all patients. They should have a copy of my note, as well as a ground mail copy being sent to your office within 24 hours of the appointment.
